Clapper Rail waynei subspecies Rallus crepitans waynei Huntington Beach State Park, Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina 5 May 2010 Although superficially similar to the Virginia rail, clapper rails are nearly twice the size of a typical Virginia rail, with a noticeably different call. The waynei subspecies, more commonly called the Wayne's clapper rail, breeds from southeast North Carolina to northeast Florida.
