Bufflehead (female) Bucephala albeola Andrew Haydon Park, Ottawa, Ontario 6 November 2009 Bufflehead are usually very skittish, and I have been unable to get a photo of one despite years of trying. Luckily a female bufflehead must have found a good feeding area, because she continually resurfaced on the Ottawa River in the same place, roughly 9m (30ft) from shore.

Redhead (male) Aythya americana Mooney's Bay, Ottawa, Ontario 18 October 2009 A lone drake redhead has been mulling around with mallards and American black ducks at Mooney's Bay. It is unusual to have a diving duck like the Aythya species in such a suburban location, but it seems the redhead has taken a liking to the free bread and seeds offered to the mallards and gulls at the park.
